I always thought that exercise was not my thing. Too busy, too tired too everything. Exercise is for people who don’t have a life and can work, leisurely drive to the gym, pay for a membership and work out for three hours, go home, clean house, put kids to bed, read a book go to bed –OH WAIT- there’s no more time for sleep just start the next day. HAHAHA I’m just kidding-in reality-if you can pull off the whole gym thing-kuddos. Me on the other hand-I had to wrestle in my mind how to fit it in. About three months into my journey, I started slowly but I made the long road(about a dozen steps) down to our finished basement and road a stationery bike for three miles. Yep, that was it. I was sweating, my body hurt, etc. But, I did it!! Everyday seven days a week. If I had to get up and our the door early I just got up earlier and road that bike-I was doing SOMETHING and that’s what is was important. I have sons that do P90X and they encouraged me to start weights. When I started reading about weights and found out that working out with weights burns calories even after you are done exercising I was saying SIGN ME UP !! I again started slowly-using five pound weights-I did a series of seven different moves-again everyday -rain or shine(HA). I do it differently now and I will work up to telling about it…Thanks for listening!
food I like
For almost one year I ate the same breakfast -this is a tip I got from Dr. Oz to have a few limited go to meals that you know you have the ingredients for and are fairly simple. My go to breakfast is whole wheat toast with peanut butter and a drizzle of honey. Also I have lowfat yogurt mixed with greek yogurt topped with blueberries. I don’t like greek yogurt by itself so I mix. Greek yogurt has alot more protein in it! I usually have a snack about 10:30 am and another snack at 3pm. Almonds, an orange or trail mix with dark chocolate pieces in it.
January 18th 2010-that’s the day this journey started for me
Yep, that was the day. I was sitting in my favorite chair holding my four month old granddaughter thinking something has to change. I can barely walk up or down stairs without lots of pain in my knees-much less run and play with my six grandkids-SOMETHING HAS TO CHANGE!! I called my daughter and said-hey don’t laugh but I am going to start another diet. She said of course she wouldn’t laugh and she would be right there with me–helping, supporting. And so it began-the first thing I did was read Dr. Oz’s book YOU on a diet. It really isn’t a “diet” plan it’s education. Maybe that’s how I learn-just needing to soak it all in. Being overweight most of my life -I have been on many a “diet” but this time it’s different. I have changed my lifestyle of eating. I try to eat “whole” foods mostly. I eat 3 times the amount of food that I used to-no really-I do. And, I eat often! I try not to get hungry and always have a snack with me. Almonds, trail mix, fruit are my favorites. It was a slow but steady pace. I never lost big numbers but always and I mean always lost some weight every week. Well, December of that year I was pretty close to losing my 75 lb weight goal and by January 18th 2011 I had lost 80 lbs. Now fast forward one year and I have keep it off and love eating the way I do. I am going to try to add tips of food, exercise, etc and tell my story. Thanks for listening!
